Main Steps of Edible OilRefining 
1. Crude Oil Degumming: In this step gums in crude oil are removed by hydration with the help of phosphoric acid.
2. Neutralization: In this step free fatty acids are neutralized by using sodium hydroxide and convert them into soap. Additional impurities are also removed by adsorption on soap.
3. Bleaching: During bleaching, unwanted pigments are adsorbed physically and oil will become much clearer. 
4. Deodorization: Deodorization is used to remove unacceptable odors by steam distillation, the odoriferous compound are stripped off with the help of live injected steam into heated oil under high vacuum pressure.

The separated fruit is then carried by a conveyer system and it falls into large cages which are placed in a sterilizer to be heated at a high pressure in a similar way to a familiar steam cooker. The cages containing the sterilized fruits are then taken by a rail carriage transporter  to be emptied using a tipper and conveyed to a rotating threshing drum to separate the fruit from the husks and to go through screw conveyers to enter Digesters and then a presser will press the oil out or rather the CPO (crude palm oil) and the oil will eventually end up in a clarifier and then be dried using a Vacuum Type Oil Dryer to minimize the water content in the palm oil.

The qualified decolorized palm oil enters into the spiral plate heat exchanger to recover most of the heat, and next goes to high pressure steam heat exchanger to be heated to the process temperature of 240-260 degrees Celsius, and then enters the deodorizer tower. The upper layer of combined deodorization tower is the packing structure that is mainly used to remove the odor producing components such as free fatty acid (FFA). The bottom layer is the plate tower which is mainly for achieving the hot decolorizing effect and reducing the peroxide value of the oil to zero.
